How I wish we had taken along that spaghetti

Omaha, Nebr.
Feb. 23, 1969

Dear Lottie,

Hope you arrived back safely and thank you so very much for taking me to Portland. I hope you didn't have car trouble returning to Tacoma. You must have been very tired.

I returned safely. Betty took me to the bus depot which left at 3:30 P.M.

How I wish we had taken along that spaghetti and in that little white pitcher was some soup. This would have tasted good when we came to Portland. And I was thinking how we could have bought some hamburgers to go with the spaghetti to bring along. Let me know who ate the spaghetti when you write.

I will be anxious to hear how your plans turn out. Did all your company come that you were expecting?

Now in case you don't go to that distant place to work will you please come to Nebraska? I asked Betty to come when school was out and she said she would try. So how about you and Betty coming? Hope you can stay at Durand's. Or at your father's house. We can figure that out later.

Lottie I was thinking about explaining something. It is this - when you come home from school sit down and take off your shoes. Then take your mail to the bedroom and by this time you have taken off your coat. Well then lie down and read your mail because you know you need the rest.

Have you heard how Jean is by this time? I intend to send her a get-well-card.

I haven't been over to see your father yet but plan to in the near future. 2 days after I returned in snowed.

I had some of the Danish lunch meat to-day and I fryed it just a little like you did.

When Betty comes be sure and show her the blue pillow I fixed. Excuse writing as now I am finishing this on my lap. Write soon and tell me if there is any news. With love and best wishes. I am Mother.

Well There Is No Turning Back Now

Oakland, Nebr.
June 29th, 1944

Betty dear -

I received your telegram yesterday. When I opened it I tryed to be brave. Well there is no turning back now. Please write me a long letter and let me know the interesting details. Will you?

What are your plans? I hope you will stop over in Omaha. I want to greet you and the one who will be at your side. If you let me know I could try and be in Omaha at the time.

I also hope you will step over at Lottie's house and also at Elin's house. And may I remind you to have some nice pictures taken together. Bur don't look at the camera.

Betty you didn't answer all my questions in the last letter. You must not have read it over as you wrote to me. Did you destroy the letter?

I suppose Marie wishes you would stay longer with her. It seems such a short time compared with the time you spent in the hospital.

Betty dear please write at once so I will get your letter in time to go to the city.

Please take good care of your-self. Your health is so important.

Oh by the way if you go by the way of Tacoma could you take Lottie's mirrow with you? Think it over.

Good-by and sweet dreams.

As ever,
I am,
Your Mother.

P.S. Please go and visit my cousins and Marie has their address. Greet them from me. Perhaps Marie could go also as she knows which way to go. Thank you.

Lincoln, Nebr.
June 18, 1950

Dearest Marie -

You asked in the short letter you wrote dated June 1st whether I received the mother's day greeting from you. I hope you received the letter which I wrote 2 weeks ago to-day in which I thank you for the telegram. I also received the underwear and anklets and they fit all right and thank you very much.

Don't send the other things you mentioned as I don't need them. At the close of this letter I'll let you know what I need and I would appreciate if you wish to send the articles.

Marie I have been hoping to hear from you and I talked to the Dr. and he said he sent my letter. I suppose you know that the patients' letters are first read before they are sent. Marie would you do me a favor and write to the Dr. and ask him if I may be dismissed? If you write to the Dr. he said he will take the letter over to the hospital staff. The Dr.'s address is Dr. Davis, Box 271, Lincoln, Nebraska.

Now if you are coming to visit me why then you don't need to write to Dr. David because you can talk to him when you get to this hospital.

When I had a letter from one of my brothers over a month ago he wrote as follows - Quote "Why do you not try to leave the hospital that when you write to your children have one of them take you home? You have 4 daughters married they could make a home for you could they not? Well I am interested in your welfare." Unquote.

I haven't heard from Lottie since I wrote to her. I wrote about the house that Bob has been building. If you are intending to come by care I wish you could go by the way of Tacoma and visit Lottie and family and see the house. If you don't plan to travel by car don't you think you and the children could come on the train? Please think of a way about the far for ["Where there is a will there is a way"] as the saying goes. And besides you should be anxious to see your brother Martin. No doubt the Durands will be glad to welcome you. Your father said they were out to visit you a few months ago.

I would like a small jar of Shasta cream to use when I wash my hair. Look for a Good Housekeeping seal on the bottom. Also you may send some candy and money.

I read where "There is magic in just changing one's surroundings." Thank your children for the drawings you sent.

Before you come find out which is the best way to travel that is if you are coming.

From, Mother.
