Dearest Marie -

You asked in the short letter you wrote dated June 1st whether I received the mother's day greeting from you. I hope you received the letter which I wrote 2 weeks ago to-day in which I thank you for the telegram. I also received the underwear and anklets and they fit all right and thank you very much.

Don't send the other things you mentioned as I don't need them. At the close of this letter I'll let you know what I need and I would appreciate if you wish to send the articles.

Marie I have been hoping to hear from you and I talked to the Dr. and he said he sent my letter. I suppose you know that the patients' letters are first read before they are sent. Marie would you do me a favor and write to the Dr. and ask him if I may be dismissed? If you write to the Dr. he said he will take the letter over to the hospital staff. The Dr.'s address is Dr. Davis, Box 271, Lincoln, Nebraska.

Now if you are coming to visit me why then you don't need to write to Dr. David because you can talk to him when you get to this hospital.

When I had a letter from one of my brothers over a month ago he wrote as follows - Quote "Why do you not try to leave the hospital that when you write to your children have one of them take you home? You have 4 daughters married they could make a home for you could they not? Well I am interested in your welfare." Unquote.

I haven't heard from Lottie since I wrote to her. I wrote about the house that Bob has been building. If you are intending to come by care I wish you could go by the way of Tacoma and visit Lottie and family and see the house. If you don't plan to travel by car don't you think you and the children could come on the train? Please think of a way about the far for ["Where there is a will there is a way"] as the saying goes. And besides you should be anxious to see your brother Martin. No doubt the Durands will be glad to welcome you. Your father said they were out to visit you a few months ago.

I would like a small jar of Shasta cream to use when I wash my hair. Look for a Good Housekeeping seal on the bottom. Also you may send some candy and money.

I read where "There is magic in just changing one's surroundings." Thank your children for the drawings you sent.

Before you come find out which is the best way to travel that is if you are coming.

Dear Marie & Family

Thanks for the letter received some time ago.

I plan to retire Oct 1st. Yes I would like to travel out that way some time.

We are having nice weather now, no snow on the ground although we had a cold speel a couple of weeks ago.

Hope that all is well with you and the rest of your family.

I Would Like Some Blue Cotton Thread

Dear Marie -

This is Sunday afternoon and I may write. Being I haven't heard from you I wondered why you have not written to me for some time now. I have been expecting to hear from you because it was your turn Marie. It was nice of you to send me the 4 pieces of clothing and candy and thank you very much. Thank your children for those little drawings also.

Have you heard from Lottie recently? I sent her an apron I had made and I have not heard if she received it. Would you kindly send her a card and remind her to write and let me know about the apron?

Marie you don't need to send me any clothes as I think I have about what I need. If you don't mind could you send me some money as a Christmas present? Perhaps my money has been spent which I had when I came here. I would appreciate it very much if you could send it real soon. I would like some blue cotton thread and I will enclose a sample and hope it isn't asking too much.

I hope I can send you something for Christmas this year but I don't know. I hope I may talk to the Dr. and get some information.

I am looking forward toward seeing your father some Wednesday. I wrote to Martin 2 weeks ago to-day and it is his turn to write.

Now I think I will need 4 balls of the kind of sample I am enclosing. On the inside it was marked and I will write it down so you will have something more to go by,

This is in order on the paper as I have written it and be sure and get the same shade. Now if you can I wish you would sent it real soon and hope I can depend on you. I am sending this air mail thanks to you for the stamps you sent me some time ago. Please don't send me any Christmas greeting card this year. You may send me some candy when you send the blue cotton instead of greeting card. Thanking you Marie in advance.

Tuberculosis Ward

"I moved to a different ward"

Dearest Marie -

I received your letter and what was enclosed. Later for Mother's day I received the Mother's day greeting from you and family by telegram and thank you very much. I received a greeting card or some remembrance from all my children.

I answered Lottie's letter and I hoped she received my letter. I explained when I wrote to her about the house which Bob has been building and perhaps Lottie has written to you about what I wrote so I will not repeat it in this letter.

Since I wrote to you the last time there has been some changes. A few weeks ago I had an X-Ray taken and then later I moved to a different ward which is in the new building. The furniture also is brand new and it is very clean. I am on the ground floor so it is near the out-doors.

Marie you well know I was disappointed that you could not come to Nebraska last summer. And when you write I look for a meaning that you are intending to come this summer. The weather has been sort of unsettled but now the weather seems mild here. Marie I hope you plan to come. In the letter that you wrote last June you wrote "(that you were very sorry that you will not get to see me. That you had hoped that you could come with Frank when he came. Also that perhaps things will work out so you all can come to Nebraska this summer)". Now please come and answer my letter on this subject which is important to me. I don't think you mean intentionally to over look this question. Or are you trying to spare my feelings? There is a saying that "She also serves who sits and waits."

I did not receive any gift from you as a Mother's day present and did you send any?

I sincerely hope to see you and please make your placs and talk it over with Frank. I am enclosing a clipping so you can study it and decide about it. Now how I would like for you to send a telegram to me when you can come for I suppose school is out.

 

Now will you let me know in 2 weeks from to-day? I must close and thank you for the gift box you sent from Easter.
