Don't Send Anything Else Only What I Have Marked Above

Lincoln, Nebr.
Dec. 4, 1953

Dear Marie -

I received your welcome letter dated Nov. 8th and I was glad to hear from you. I have not heard from Lottie or Elin since I have been here. When I first came here I sent you and your sisters something. Yes I crocheted on the handkerchief which I sent to you when I was at the hospital. No I don't have much extra time now.

Thank you for thinking about my health and about my duties here. I can hardly explain about my work very much. I help in the kitchen and I wash the dishes.

And now about medical attention which you asked about in your letter. If I explain in a few words would you be interested enough to help me? I have had something in my eye and I would like to go and see an eye Dr. Also 1 of my feet has hurt me and I would like to go see a foot Dr. If I go to see a Dr. I wish to pay for any services. And I was thinking that when you write and send me some money could you pleanse write as follows -

This money is for Mrs. Ruth Jensen, my mother to use when she goes to a Dr. Thank you very much.

Now please copy the words so that I can show them to the lady I am working for.

I have written to you about Martin and oh I hope he is safe and well. How I wish that I would hear from him. I could just cry about him.

Marie I am enclosing an article about writing. So teach your children to write carefully.

I didn't price the skirt that I saw in the store that I wrote that I would like.

If your little girls should wish to send me something may I mention that I would like. It is a small pin cushion and dark blue. Perhaps you can help them make 1 for me.

I heard over the radio on the Arthur Godfrey program about flour. There are 4 recipes in a bag of Pillsbury's flour. They are cake recipes form Europe. I wish that you could make 1 of the cakes and some filling or sauce. Or maybe you would like to put frosting on the cake. Perhaps you could send it air-mail and write handle with care or fragile. Will you try? It would be a favor.

Now if you should make a filling for the cake it would be better to put it in one of those little cups which don't break and has a lid to it. They have different sizes here and I hope you know what I mean.

There are 2 other ladies working here. Last Sunday evening the lady we work for took us down to the city in her automobile. We went to see how nice the store windows are decorated for Christmas.

1. Now you may send me what money you can spare.
2. And 1 pin cushion.
3. One cake with some kind of filling that you think I would like.

Please Marie don't send anything else only what I have marked above.

My wishes are expressed with-in the greeting card I am enclosing.

With best wishes and please write soon.

I remain,
As ever,
Your Mother
