Dear Marie –
I wish to thank you for the Easter greeting card and contents.
I feel I am in mourning since by brother Joseph passed away at a hospital in Pender, Nebr. My brother was born out at Colorado, June 14, 1894. When he was 6 ½ years of age he went to live with my uncle and aunt on a farm about 3 miles from Bancroft, Nebr., and he worked pretty hard there. There were no child-labor laws then and my aunt came for him. At the depot he cried and said he wanted to stay with my mother. He went to country school and later to high school in town where he graduated and there were only 4 in the class.
We seldom saw my brother after he left us. Bur he went a term to the agriculture college at Lincoln. And when the 1st world war, he was in the Navy. And when he returned that picture was given to my late mother. I don’t know how long after wards he was married to Blanche at West Point, Nebr. The farm and all my uncle and aunt’s belongings were sold at auction and divided among my aunt’s relatives and there were several.
Because Blanche did not know your address she sent the enclosed to be sent to you.
Please try and come as soon as possible,
As ever, I remain,
Mother
P.S. Excuse writing.
